Sukoon

Sukoon

Sukoon embodies the power of clothes to form and alter self-image for performers. It has roots in fusion that enable it to straddle multiple worlds, making it unique through the curation of different elements.

Highlight

An interesting aspect of the project was the focus on the drape, flow and movement that is needed in performance pieces. This required multiple prototypes and extensive testing to ensure that the skirt had enough body to hold structure and support movement.

Key Skills

Draping and Prototyping

The first prototype was a modified version of a circle skirt (so they were pants) for the bottom and a flowy top . For the second prototype I created a much more sophisticated prototype this time since I needed to test its movement and mimic the way the Pallu (upper hafl) would be.

Testing

Testing was really important to understand how to acheive the right movement and structure.

Lino Carving and Printing

For the Pallu, I carved a lino block with a leaf motif and printed it on a translucent chiffon to add a layer of dimension to the dress.
